610. Herbert Arthur Chamberlain Hunter BLYTH was born on 21 Sep 1849 in Amritsar, Bengal, India. He was baptized on 13 Jun 1852 in St Pauls, Agra, India. God parents were James and Sarah Hunter. He inherited some of his fathers property in New Zealand on 4 Nov 1873. Herber'ts father was in the process of purchasing an estate, Wharncliff in Mougouni, Auckland when he wrote his will. Herbert was bequeathed the estate, if the purchase had been completed at the time of the will being proved. If not then Herbert was to receive the money which had been invested, pending completion. Herbert was also to receive half of another estate, ____ Hill in Mougouni, shared with his brother, William. He died on 25 Mar 1905 in Amityville, New York, USA. He was buried on 29 Mar 1905 in Glenwood Cemetary, Philadelphia, USA. He was also known as Maurice Barrymore.
Most of Herberts early schooling was undertaken by a tutor, Rev. Strawbridge. He then went back to England and started school at Harrow in the autumn of 1860. He left Calcutta aboard the ship 'Nile'.

June 1872: Herbert changed his name to GH Blythe. He took up the name MH Barrymore in September 1873.
29th Dec 1874: he left Southampton on board the SS America for Boston, USA. 5th July 1884: Maurice, his wife and 3 children sailed from New York to Liverpool on the SS Alaska. They took up residence at 218 St Johns Wood, London until the end of the summer when they returned to America.
Spring 1898: Barry, Mamie and 16 year old Jack return to London.

He took his stage name from an old playbill hanging in Haymarket Theatre, London. Before becoming an actor, he was a well known kick-boxer. He first appeared on stage in London, then moved to the US in 1875 to play in "Under the Gaslight" in New York City. Maurice was leading man for Polish actress Helena Modjeska, American actress, Minnie Maddern Fiske, British actress Lily Langtry and many other stars. Herbert did not leave a will.

He was married to Georgiana Emma DREW (daughter of John DREW and Louisa LANE) on 31 Dec 1876 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Georgiana Emma DREW was born on 21 May 1856 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. She died on 12 Jul 1893 in Santa Barbara, CA, USA. She was buried in Glenwood Cemetary, Philadelphia, USA. She was also known as Georgiana Emma Drew Barrymore. 1872: Georgianna made her acting debut on 21st October, aged 16 years. She married Maurice at her mothers home in Philadelphia. In 1893 She died of consumption. Herbert Arthur Chamberlain Hunter BLYTH and Georgiana Emma DREW had the following children:

He was married to Mamie FLOYD on 2 Jul 1894 in New York, USA. Mamie FLOYD was born about 1865.
